It is funded by Merdot, judged on whether you are a student. When the year ends, students who re-verify continue on Starter at half price (Rs 250 a month).

Fill in the short form below with your name, institution and course. Add a student ID, fee receipt, bonafide certificate or admit card if you have one; it speeds up review.

We verify
A person at Merdot reviews every application, usually within 2 to 3 days. You get an email when it is approved.

Study for a year
Sign in and the Starter plan is on your account for 12 months. Near the end we ask you to confirm you are still a student; if you are, Starter continues at half price, Rs 250 a month.

- Who can apply
- Current students in India: school, college, university, diploma, competitive-exam aspirants and research scholars.
- What it costs
- Nothing. No card, no fee, no trial that converts. The Starter plan is normally Rs 499 a month; for verified students it is free for one year.
- What is not included
- Social media accounts, scheduled agents and the higher plans. Those are for businesses and stay paid.
- Fair use
- Access is personal and non-transferable. Sharing a login, reselling access or using it to cheat in assessments ends the account.

Scholar access is granted after review, at Merdot's discretion, and is subject to fair-use limits. Approved access is renewable every 12 months.

- What is the Merdot Scholar Program?
- It is Merdot AI's education access initiative · giving verified students in India free, fair-use access to the full Merdot AI workspace for study, exams, coding, English and career, so that capable AI is not something only paying users can afford.
- Is it really free? What is the catch?
- Yes · there is no fee and no card required. You get the Starter plan (Rs 499/mo) free for one year · its normal chat caps apply, access is personal and non-transferable, and must be used honestly to learn. Social accounts, scheduled agents and the higher plans are not part of the programme. Merdot funds it, so keeping it fair keeps it free.
- Who can apply?
- Current students in India · school, college, university, diploma, competitive-exam aspirants and research scholars. If you are learning seriously and would otherwise go without capable AI, you are likely eligible. Even without a standard student ID, you can apply with alternative proof.
- How much AI access do I get?
- Verified students receive the Starter plan free for a year · the same chat, document, voice, calendar and Merdot Mail allowance a paying Starter member gets, which is more than enough for studying, coding, exam preparation, research and assignments. Social media accounts and scheduled agents are not included. Limits are the Starter plan's limits and may change when the plan changes.
- How long does access last?
- The free year is once. Near the end of it we ask you to re-confirm you are still a student; if you are, you can continue on the Starter plan at half price, Rs 250 a month instead of Rs 499, for as long as you remain a verified student.
- What documents do I need?
- One proof that you are a student · a student ID card, fee receipt, bonafide certificate, admit card or marksheet. Uploading it is optional but speeds up review. Your document is used only to verify you and is never sold or shared.
- How long does approval take?
- A human reviews each application, usually within 2 to 3 days. We will email you once your access is approved · check your spam folder just in case.
- Can I use it to cheat in exams?
- No. Merdot AI is built to help you understand and prepare, not to cheat. Please follow your institution's rules on submitted work. Misusing the account · including reselling access or sharing your login · leads to suspension.
